Over the year we run events and courses at Body Strength that we think may be of interest to our members. These might include anything from new yoga techniques, to fitness, meditation and beauty classes. To keep track of what’s coming up, check this page regularly or get in touch today.

 KettleBell with Jana Dufort

Kettle bells brings a twist to weight lifting and lengthening of the body. Use them in ballistic (explosive) swinging movements used in more traditional press and squat exercises. The displacement of the weight from the hand requires that the stabilizing muscles engage more with each movement and therefore requiring more muscle firing at once. Kettle bell exercises are whole-body exercises requiring full body integration and core stabilization. There is no such thing as isolated muscle work in kettle bell training.

YIN YOGA with Robert Cioppa

Yin yoga is a unique training program that involves the principles of Kripalu-style Yin Yoga to help correct posture imbalances.  The program focuses on strengthening and lengthening the muscles that support the body to straighten and re-align itself.

Who needs Yin?

Anyone who sits at a desk all day, has children, or just slouches. Almost everybody has created imbalances leading to bad posture as a result of work, stress or injury.   These imbalances can be worsened during exercise if the bad posture isn’t addressed.

Mother's Day Weekend

Mantra Music Concert with Kirtan Soul Revival at the Upper West Side Kirtan

Saturday, May 13th • 7 PM

We are so excited to bring the KSR love for the first time to this vibrant kirtan community on the UWS! We are blessed to be joined by incredible Terrence Pompey on drums and the beautiful sounds of Sundar Das on flute. Come enjoy New York City’s funkiest devotional mantra music experience!

Since 2011, Kirtan Soul Revival (KSR) has been fusing traditional Sanskrit mantras, original music, and music from around the world to create a unique, dynamic sound that merges guitar-driven funk, rock, gospel, rhythm and blues, world grooves, and chants. Soul-stirring vocals and three-part harmony add fullness and depth to its sound. Even non-singers can easily experience the joy of being surrounded by harmony in a space that encourages improvisation and exploration.

“Chanting is a way of getting in touch with yourself. It’s an opening of the heart and letting go of the mind and thoughts. It deepens the channel of grace, and it’s a way of being present in the moment.” -Krishna Das

Yin is the style of yoga about surrender. A practice of letting go, yin creates the space to fully relax and destress. Essential for our Yang lifestyle, yin is the compliment to teach us stillness and true refuge from daily anxieties. Yin is a tradition of holding restorative poses for 3-5 minutes.

The poses are designed to get deep into the body releasing ligaments and deep tissue. AJ's unique sequence includes a full body experience. Each class will be designed to target four of the main causes of suffering.

Fear, Anxiety, Grief and Anger. Through guided meditation, essential oils and specific poses AJ will guide you to create more space and joy in your body.
